Collimator Technology and Advancements

چکیده
The single-hole collimator limits the field of view of a scintillation probe to a single organ. The sensitivity for counting is approximately equal over the entire field of view. The most common use of this collimator is for iodine uptake measurements of the thyroid. An example of this "flat-field collimator" is shown (Fig. I). The sensitivity profile at the working distance illustrates the relatively constant sensitivity over the field of view. The working distance, D, from the scintillation detector is a compromise. The working distance must be sufficiently large so that variations in organ depth (using the inverse square law) do not significantly affect the count measurement, while maintaining enough sensitivity for detection (also determined by the inverse square law). A complete treatment of these trade-offs has been described ( 1 ). For most probes, the working distance will be 20-30 em

Cancer is one of the major causes of death all over the globe and radiotherapy is considered one of its most effective treatment methods. Designing a radiotherapy treatment plan was done entirely manually in the past. RecentlyIntensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) was introduced as a new technology with advanced medical equipmentin the recent years. IMRT provides the opportunity to delive...
متن کاملCollimator-detector response compensation in molecular SPECT reconstruction using STIR framework
Introduction:It is well-recognized that collimator-detector response (CDR) is the main image blurring factor in SPECT. In this research, we compensated the images for CDR in molecular SPECT by using STIR reconstruction framework. Methods: To assess resolution recovery capability of the STIR, a phantom containing five point sources along with a micro Derenzo p...
متن کاملA skew-slit collimator for small-animal SPECT.
UNLABELLED The main objective of this work was the development of a skew-slit collimator for small-animal SPECT to replace the state-of-the-art multipinhole collimator. METHODS A pinhole forms a cone-beam imaging geometry. If the collimator rotates around the object in a circular orbit, the projection measurements acquired by the cone-beam imaging geometry are incomplete and not enough for ar...
متن کاملImproved quality of pediatric 123I-MIBG images with medium-energy collimators.
UNLABELLED Our objective was to optimize the quality of (123)I-metaiodobenzylguanidine (MIBG) scans by using a medium-energy collimator to reduce high-energy-photon septal penetration. METHODS In addition to the 159-keV γ-ray, (123)I has a small abundance of energies above 400 keV that can compromise the image quality of MIBG studies because of septal penetration. Using a low-energy ultrahigh...
